Bowman & Sons
- Category: Drone survey
- Project: Bowman & sons, Tunbridge Wells, Kent TN3 9AA
- Job No: LS23-518
- Completion Date:10/10/2023
LEAD STRUCTURAL PROJECT OVERVIEW
Internal Alterations and wall removal within a commercial restaurant application.
This project was based in a tenement at duke street where internal walls were required to be removed to add bathroom space for customers. The works also involved removing internal walls where new toilets, stores and customer sitting space was required. These alterations gave a more open plan view of the restaurant.
Steel frames and Beams on padstones were used to achieve these wall removals as the walls were load bearing. Where the wall removal was required to achieve an opening for customers to go to the toilets a beam was proposed on padstones. As the existing wall was weak in nature it was proposed that new engineering brick piers were to be constructed on pad foundations to achieve the bearing strength.
To provide more space internally a picture frame of 203 UB was proposed onto 100mm SHS columns. The frame was designed to be within the floor space.
We prepared and managed the necessary approvals including the building warrant process and provided an end to end service with as little disturbance to the client’s renovations.

Lead Structural Ltd conducted a survey and undertake a comprehensive roof condition assessment for five warehouse units located at the Bowman & Sons agricultural site in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, TN3 9AA. The primary objective of this assessment was to evaluate the structural and surface integrity of the roofs to determine their suitability for supporting a proposed Photovoltaic (PV) panel installation.
Our inspection approach combined traditional structural evaluation with advanced drone technology. A quadrotor drone equipped with high-resolution 4K imaging was deployed to capture detailed aerial visuals of each roof area, enabling accurate identification of surface-level issues such as damage, wear, or obstruction. The assessment was carried out by qualified structural inspectors and engineers, ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols and full compliance with relevant Eurocode standards for structural analysis.
In addition to the roof condition assessment, a parallel structural evaluation was performed to verify the load-bearing capacity and resilience of the roof frameworks. This dual-assessment approach ensures that all recommendations made are based on a holistic understanding of both material condition and structural performance.
